The Competition and Markets Authority has published a consultation on their Annual Plan, which sets out the organisation’s main objectives and priorities for 2018/2019. The key proposals include:
- Enforcement: The regulator proposes to increase its enforcement work with at least six new competition enforcement investigations. They will also ensure that individuals within businesses take full responsibility for ensuring their business comply with competition law.
- Developing the CMA: The CMA announced to establish a new digital, data and technology team to ensure that the CMA’s capacity and capabilities match the development of financial technology.
- Preparing the UK for Brexit: Strengthen the international position of the UK financial markets, to be able to play an increasingly important role in the review of global mergers and international competition enforcement investigations after Brexit.
The consultation closed on 14 January 2018 and the final version of the Annual Plan will be published in March 2018.
